Leon, Iowa
November 8, 1883

BENJAMIN HAWKINS was born in Fayette County, Ky., the 11th day of August,
1815. In the year 1833 he moved to Bartholomew County, Ind. On the 26th
day of December he was married to MARY ELIZABETH J. GRAVES. In September,
1849 he moved to Davis County, Iowa. In September, 1852, he moved to
Decatur County and settled on a farm 5 miles east of Leon, where he died
October 7th, 1883, being 68 years, 1 month and 26 days old.

Funeral discourse at High Point Chapel, the 8th, at 1 o'clock, by S.A.
Garber. The great respect which the deceased justly merited was manifested
by the many sympathizing friends which followed him to his last resting
place in the High Point Cemetery. Brother HAWKINS made a profession of
religion about 26 years ago and joined the M.E. Church, and with all the
changing scenes around him he stood firm and faithful to the end. May peace
reign.

-- S.A.
GARBER.
