Decatur County Journal
Leon, Iowa
Thursday, January 30, 1913

ARTHUR MARION HAAG was born March 32, 1875, at Prairie Grove, Clarke County,
Iowa, and died January 19, 1913, at Centerville, Iowa, being 37 years, 9
months and 18 days of age.

He was married to ROSA MAY LEE, September 22, 1896, at Hanley, Madison
County, Iowa and to this union were born four children, ROYAL BERNARD, who
died in infancy, MERVILLE JUDD, THELMA LAURINE and VERA DEAN, who are
present today.

ARTHUR was the only son of a family of three children born to WM. P. And
ROSETHA MOORE HAAG, his sister, ESTELLA, died in infancy, and ETTA, at the
age of four years. His father, Dr. WM. P. HAAG, was one of Clarke County's
pioneer physicians and was assistant surgeon in the Union army, and was a
practicing physician in Murray, Iowa, at the time of his death, at the age
of 48 years. ARTHUR was thrown on his own responsibilities at the age of 17
years, and began developing those sterling qualities of his by teaching a
number of terms of school which enabled him to study pharmacy at the State
University at Iowa City and was a graduate of the school of pharmacy at
Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, with the class of 1896.

The first year of his business life was spent in a drug store in Stuart,
Iowa, and he came to Pleasanton in the fall of '97, entering into
partnership with Dr. I.N. Lovett in the drug business, which he has added to
and developed into an up-to-date general store. When A.M. HAAG became a
citizen of Pleasanton, its advancement meant his advancement, its good his
good and every idea for the improvement found a champion in him. He did not
always wait for his fellow citizens in advocating a good cause for his
community and pushing it to completion by the aid of his hands, mind and
purse with a whole heartedness characteristic of him in doing everything
well. He was a man who loved Pleasanton, her surroundings and her people and
in him they found a friend and brother.

He was a kind and loving husband and father whose delight was in his family,
their comfort and happiness, a true and faithful friend and neighbor. To
know him was to love him and respect him. He was honorable in his dealings
with men, as well as kind to the needy. He will be greatly missed by his
loved ones and all who knew him.

Funeral at his residence at 2 p.m. January 21. Sermon by M.M. Turpen by
request of the deceased.
