JOHN H. LAUGHLIN (Seymour, IA) ... John Henry Laughlin of Seymour, IA, was born April 17, 1923 on a farm near Schell City, the son of Lloyd and Victoria [Robinson] Laughlin. He was the third of six children, three girls and three boys. He died August 28, 1994 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident at the age of 71 years, 4 months and 11 days.

John's parents, who were originally from Mercer County, moved their family back to Mercer County when John was a young boy. As John got older, his parents moved near High Point, IA, in Decatur County, IA. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized at the Christian Chruch in Humeston, IA. After graduating from high school in Garden Grove, IA, John served his country in Europe during World War II. When he returned, John began farming, then sold bottled gas, furniture, milking machines, and finally hardware, when he and his wife owned and operated the J.L. Store in Seymour, IA, for nearly 25 years.

On June 17, 1956 John was united in marriage to Joan Stewart at the West Minster Presbyterian Church in Des Moines, IA. This marriage was blessed with three boys.

John was preceded in death by his parents and one infant brother, Lloyd.

Survivors include his three sons and their families, Joe and wife, Terri and daughters, Heidi and Amber of Macon, Jon and wife, Amy and children Greg and Megan of Pella, IA, and Jerry and wife, Ronnee of Blue Springs. Other survivors include his three sisters, Mary Lee Davis and husband, Harold of Allerton, IA, Isobel Marshall and husband, John of Largo, FL, and Josephine Elliott and husband, Jack of Des Moines, IA; a brother, Montgomery Laughlin and wife, Lois of Billings, MT; and other relatives and friends.

Joint funeral services for Joan and John were held Wednesday, August 31, 1994, at 1:30 p.m., at the Randolph Funeral Home, Corydon, IA, with Brother Raymond Bond and Pastor Wade Cash officiating. Pallbearers were Charles Donelson, Ken Donelson, Terry Jellison, Derrel Jellison, Rick Jellison, Henry Hefner, Harley Cochran, John Collins, Randy Stewart, Jerry Clow, Gary Clow and Jack Jellison. Interment was in the Southlawn Cemetery, Seymour, IA. Military honors were by Nye-Birdwell Post #180, Seymour American Legion. Memorials were established to either the Seymour Community Center or the Maple Leaf Park in Seymour, IA.
