DEATH NOTICE:

(The Leon Journal-Reporter Leon, Iowa February 20, 2008)

WADDELL, Virginia May, 88, of Anderson, South Carolina, formerly of Leon, Iowa, died February 12, 2008 at Anderson Anmed Health Center. Funeral services were February 16 at Slade-O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon with Rev. Max Carmichael officiating. Burial was in Decatur Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.

A memorial fund has been established by the family.

VIRGINIA MAY WADDELL ... Virginia May Waddell, age 88 of Anderson, South Carolina and formerly of Leon, Iowa, daughter of Charles Franklin Green and Minnie LaVerne [McLaughlin] Green, was born May 14, 1919 in Decatur, Iowa. She was the third of 13 children. Virginia died February 12, 2008 at Anderson Anmed Health in Anderson, South Carolina.

Virginia married Ray Charles "Buck" Waddell on November 20, 1937 in the Methodist Parsonage in Leon. They were parents of five children: LaVerna, Helen, Charles, Donald, and Wanda.

Virginia was a homemaker and took good care of her family. She raised big gardens and is remembered by her family for her jellies and pies. She loved to go fishing with her family.

From the time she was young, Virginia was a caring person. She looked after her brothers and sisters; neighbors; and new baby grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Virginia also cared for people at Leon Care Center when she worked there.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband Ray in 1997; sisters: Helen South, Ruth Reed, and Marcine Jones; brothers: Ralph Green, Dusky Green, and Archie Green; granddaughter Brenda Cason; and sons-in-law Don Sams and Gilles LaFaille.

Survivors include her five children: LaVerna LaFaille of Anderson, South Carolina, Helen Jeanes and husband Gary of Eagleville, Missouri, Charles Waddell and wife Judy of Lamoni, Iowa, Donald Waddell and wife Beth of Houston, Texas, and Wanda Sams of Lenox, Iowa; 14 grandchildren: Roy Waddell, Roxie Quick, Rodney Waddell, Ronetta Walkup, Don Sams, Scott Sams, Doug Jeanes, Denise Jennings, Kevin Waddell, Mandy Blakenship, Lynda Childress, Paul LaFaille, Ray LaFaille, and Mary Lynn Reuter; 29 great grandchildren: Taylor Waddell, Alysha Quick, Amber Quick, Trista Waddell, Tayla Waddell, Trevor Waddell, Coby Walkup, Abby Sams, Brittany Neese, Madison Sams, Tyler Jeanes, Tiffany Jeanes, Bill Jennings, Jaxon Waddell, Britney Blakenship, Shelby Blakenship, Destini Cason, Colton Cason, Quinton Childress, Joe LaFaille, Jessie LaFaille, Gill LaFaille, Austin LaFaille, Jamie LaFaille, McKenzie LaFaille, Merrick McKeig, Megan McKeig, Kimberly Dutch, and John Reuter; 6 great-great grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Arline Young of Leon, Dick and Martha Green and Elmer and Toshiko Green, all of Lamoni, Pauline Young of Afton, Iowa, Neil and Donna Jean Green of Decatur, and Ellie Cornett of Mason City, Iowa; brother-in-law Bill Jones of Leon; sisters-in-law Faye Green of Lamoni and Betty Green of McPherson, Kansas; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
