WILLIAM THOMAS, of Grand River, son of DAVID and MARY ANNE (PRITCHARD) THOMAS, was born in Llandovry, Carmarthenshire, Wales, April l, l844; died in Oskaloosa, Iowa, May 28, l924, and was buried on Sunday, June l, l924 in the family burial place in the Funktown Cemetery, from the country home where the family have resided since the year of l870, when they came from Wapello County, having emigrated from Wales with the family in l854. The family consisted of the father, mother, three brothers and five sisters. Of these, only one survives, MRS. FLINT, of Eldora, Iowa, who was with him in his last days. He was of the Baptist Faith, having been baptized in the Ashland Church at the age of twenty years. At the time of death, he was a member of the Pleasant Valley Church near his home.

The funeral was conducted by the Rev. E.C. Vanderpool of Lockridge, Iowa, who for many years had been a close, personal friend. Services were held under the trees at the old home where his friends came from many miles to pay their last tribute to a good and faithful friend. The pall bearers were his nephews: J.T. PENCE, who had come from Salt Lake; W.J. SPRINGER, JAMES and JOHN STONE, of Leon. The nieces present were MRS. RUE STONE, of Leon and MRS. W.W. JAMES, of Yucatan.

The going of MR. THOMAS closes the home that for a half century has been the home of DAVID and WILLIAM THOMAS, so widely known and respected, a home open always to home coming relatives and friends.
