JAMES SCADDEN was born in Meges County, Ohio, in l838 and departed this life at Garden Grove, Iowa, May 5, l924, being at the time of his death, 86 years of age. He was married to SAMANTHA BARRETT in l859. To this union were born six children: DALE and WILLIAM, of Grant City, Mo.; JAP and BEN, of Weldon, Iowa; EDWARD, of Van Wert, Iowa; and MRS. ELLEN REYNOLDS, of near Garden Grove. He spent the first six years of his married life in Meges County, Ohio. They then moved to Missouri and later to Iowa, and at the time of his death lived at Garden Grove. He enlisted in the Civil War in l86l and served four years of faithful service.

Those who mourn his loss are his wife, his six children, forty-five grandchildren and forty-three great grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the home, May 7th, at l0 a.m., conducted by A.L. Sears. Interment was made in the Trullinger Cemetery. The esteem in which he was held was shown by the friends and relatives in attendance.
