MATILDA CARTWRIGHT, widow of the late WILLIAM T. CARTWRIGHT, departed this life at the residence of her daughter, MRS. C.S. FRAZIER in Davis City, Tuesday at 3:30 a.m., July 8, l924, following a decline of about two years. Deceased was the daughter of PHILIP and SARAH BOLDMAN. She was born in Pike County, Ohio, October l0, l839, being at the time of her death, 84 years, 8 months and 28 days old. She was married to WILLIAM T. CARTWRIGHT, April 25, l86l. He passed away May l7, l9l4. To this union were born eight children, six of whom survive: CORA passed to the Great Beyond July 7, l90l, and HARRY, September l7, l9l3. In l865, with her husband and son, GEORGE, she moved to Decatur County, living on a farm where all of her children were born and raised. She passed through many hardships in the early days, but bore them all with patience and fortitude, always being of a cheerful disposition. After the death of her husband, she lived in Davis City, but the last two years, through her declining health, she made her home with her children. When a girl of eighteen years, she united with the Methodist Church, always retaining her membership therein.

In the passing of MRS. CARTWRIGHT, Decatur County loses one of its oldest settlers. When death comes at the end of many years, it means only a laying down to rest after a long journey over a weary road, but the Supreme Ruler makes no mistakes and sometime, somewhere, his purpose will be made plain.

All that could be done to make her comfortable was done, yet it pleased God to call her on. "The Lord gave and Lord hath taken away, Blessed be the name of the Lord."

The funeral was held from the home of her daughter, MRS. C.S. FRAZIER, Wednesday, July 8, l924, at 2:30 p.m., conducted by Rev. Clark who read from the Scriptures, John l4, Text, l,2,3. The services were attended by a large concourse of sympathizing friends, after which her body was laid beside her husband. Sympathy is expressed for the bereaved ones, may they be comforted by the very present and adorable Christ.

She greatly appreciated her home and old friends, her children, 28 grandchidlren and l5 great grandchildren will revere her memory and her work will follow her. She leaves to mourn their loss: GEO. E., of near Leon; EDWARD A., of Woodland; WILL C., of High Point; MRS. W.E. LEE and MRS. C.S. FRAZIER, of Davis City; and MRS. L.G. REICK, of Garden Grove; one sister, MRS. DALLAS RADNICH, of Davis City; and one brother, L.B. BOLDMAN, of Davis City; several grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
