The passing of JAMES BOLDMAN took from our community one more Civil War Veteran and early settler. JAMES BOLDMAN, son of PHILLIP and SARAH BOLDMAN, was born at Piketown, Pike County, Ohio, October 9, l833, and departed this life, March l0, l924, aged ninety years, five months and one day. He was married to HARRIET MOORE in September, l860. To this union were born three daughters; MRS. ALICE STROPES, of Columbus, Ohio; MRS. DELLA ARNOLD, of St. Joseph, Mo.; and MRS. MATILDA MERRITT, of Billings, Mont. The last two named were present at the last of his sickness. He also reared one boy, CHARLEY, son of his brother LEGRAND, the mother having died when CHARLES was less than two years old.

After the death of his wife HARRIET, he married MRS. KATE HAWKINS, a childhood friend. She passed away about eight years ago. Besides his children, he is survived by one brother, LEGRAND BOLDMAN and two sisters, MRS. MATILDA CARTWRIGHT and MRS. DALLAS RADNICH, all of Davis City.

He served about four years in the Civil War in the ll7th Heavy Artillery from Ohio, being wounded once. He made a profession of his faith in God when a young man. The last few years of his life he became quite active in God's work and supported what he believed to be right both in testimony and with material means. Uncle JIM as his friends called him, was one of the many to cross the plains in l859 in search of gold in California. He came to Iowa in l872 and settled one-fourth mile east of Davis City where he lived until l902 when he sold the farm and came to town. The last forty years he has watched the changes and helped in many ways to make what was once almost a wilderness change to a beautiful place to live. The familiar figure of Uncle JIM will be missed by many whom he befriended in time of need.

Funeral services were held at the Union Church, Tuesday at 2:30 p.m., Rev. Kline of the Apostolic faith delivered the sermon. Burial in the old cemetery beside his wife, the mother of his children.
