FRED SHULTZ, a young farmer about 30 years of age, was instantly killed while cutting down an ash tree on the farm known as the old Richey farm about 4 l/4 miles southwest of Van Wert early last Thursday morning. MR. SHULTZ in company with a neighbor was cutting down an ash tree which was leaning over the bank of a ditch, and had sawed the tree partly in two from the top, when it fell and the stump kicked up and came back striking him on the head and chest and pinning him to the side of the bank, killing him instantly. Help was secured at once, but it was necessary to saw the tree up before his body could be released. MR. SHULTZ had only resided in that neighborhood a few months, coming from near Norwalk, and is survived by his wife and four small children. What makes the circumstances more sad is that MRS. SHULTZ was an orphan without a living relative except her husband and children.
