Thursday, November 22, l923PERLLE E. HUTCHINSON, the well-known foreman of the county road gang, was instantly killed in an auto accident Sunday afternoon about three o'clock, when his car overturned on the road about three miles north of Lineville.
MR. HUTCHINSON, accompanied by FRED BEAVERS, of Woodland, were driving to Lineville in MR. HUTCHINSON's car, and were driving at a fair rate of speed, when in turning a corner either a tire blew out when they struck some soft dirt, or the casing rolled off, and being on a turn this caused the front wheel to give way and the car turned over twice, stopping on its side, and MR. HUTCHINSON remained in the car, his hands grasping the steering wheel and his foot was on the brake. FRED BEAVERS was thrown out of the car and was considerably bruised and several ribs fractured, but he was able to go to the wrecked car where he found MR. HUTCHINSON with blood pouring from his mouth, nose and ears. He pulled him out of the car, but he only gasped once or twice after he reached him. The back of his head was crushed, having been caught by the rear seat of the car. Quite a crowd was soon on the scene, and an undertaker was summoned from Lineville, who took his body to that place and prepared it for burial, the funeral being held at the Union Church in Woodland, Monday afternoon, in charge of the Lineville Masonic Lodge, interment being in the Lentz Cemetery in Woodland.
MR. HUTCHINSON was 43 years old, and had a very wide acquaintance all over Decatur County, his genial nature making friends of all with whom he came in contact, and his death is a great loss to the entire community.
