S.H. AMOS was born in Ohio seventy-three years ago and he came to Wayne County, Iowa, in early manhood, and soon after began the study of law and taught school at the same time. He was admitted to the bar in the year of l879 and immediately after, began the practice of law in Garden Grove, Iowa, where he has lived and made his home and his friends.

He died June 22, l923, at 3:30 p.m., surrounded by his immediate family, wife, two daughters and five granddaughters. He united with the M.E. Church soon after he located in Garden Grove and has been an active member all the years following. For over 20 years, he was Superintendent of the Sunday School. He was raised a Mason, June 24, l87l, and at different times filled many of the offices in Temple Lodge l70 Garden Grove, also a member of Knights Templar at Leon, and Shrine at Davenport, and a recognized authority on the Masonic ritual and ceremonies over a wide area in Southern Iowa.

As a man and citizen, he was ever unassuming, gentle and charitable in his treatment of his fellow men, and possessing the very qualities that stand for permanent and lasting friendships. His presence will be missed in this community, and particularly so to his many close and intimate friends who best know how to measure the full worth of this good citizen, husband and father.

Funeral services were held last Sunday afternoon at the M.E. Church in Garden Grove, being in charge of the Masonic Fraternity. The sermon was preached by Rev. Duling of Minneapolis, a former Pastor of the Garden Grove M.E. Church. An escort from the Knights Templar Lodge at Leon was in attendance and the local O.E.S. Chapter and Temple Lodge attended in a body. The services were attended by a large number of people and were very impressive.
