ARTHUR WILLIAM, son of SANFORD and MARY HUTCHINSON was born in Franklin County, Indiana, March 4, l859. He was the sixth child in a family of eleven children and of this family but two sisters remain, MRS. MARY REED BROWN, in Lewistown, Montana and MRS. HANNAH OWENS, of Wichita, Kan., and one sister-in-law, MRS. A.C. HUTCHINSON, of Portland, Oregon.

When but a small child the family moved to New Haven, Ohio. His father passed away when he was but ten years of age. Three of his brothers answered their country's call and his greatest desire was to go but owing to his tender age he was not permitted to go. He, with his older brother, were left to help their widowed mother on the farm.

When at the age of eighteen, the family moved to near Woodland, Iowa. With the exception of one year spent in California and a few years in Kansas, the rest of the time he has lived in Iowa.

On December 22, l878, he was united in marriage to MISS VIOLA JANE CAIN at Woodland, Iowa. They lived in Decatur County for three years after their marriage and in the year of l882, they moved overland to Ringgold County and settled on the prairie at their present home near Mount Ayr.

Thus he has known the hardships of the early pioneer days. To this union were born six children, C.O. and C.C., at home; C.A., of Spokane, Washington; MRS. CORA BIRD; MRS. CASSIE MITCHEL and MRS. CARRIE BRIGGS, all of near Mount Ayr. All the children were with him during his long illness except C.A., and he and his family arrived the evening before his death. Most of the family were present when the end came so peacefully, Sunday morning at 8:45, March 25, l923, he having reached the age of seventy-three years and twenty-one days.

MR. HUTCHINSON's home has been known for its hospitality and nothing he enjoyed more than to have his neighbors and friends to call and he continued to visit with them almost till the last. He has been a very patient sufferer for nearly two years from dropsy and all that loving hands and skill could do was done to relieve him. He has been a member of the Masonic order for forty-six years. He was a man that was always willing to contribute to anything for the good of his cummunity and will not only be sadly missed by the ones in his home but by his many acquaintances.

Those who are left to mourn his loss are his devoted wife, his three sons and three daughters, the above named sisters and the grandchildren and hosts of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were conducted from the M.E. Church at Mount Ayr, Tuesday, March 27, at eleven a.m. by Rev. Jay Kirkendall and the Masonic Lodge.
