JAMES VAUGHN, a well known old soldier, who resided alone for many years on his forty acre farm, two miles east of Leon, died shortly after noon, Monday, his death following an illness of several days with flu. He was 84 years of age, and was an eccentric character, but very loyal to his friends. His wife and several children died many years ago, and since that time he had resided alone.

Just prior to his death, he called ED H. SHARP to make his will, saying he realized he was going to die, but his mind remained clear right up to the time of his death. Realizing his serious illness, he sent for neighbors and when they came, he directed them to break the plastering over the door in his home, and take out a can which contained $990 in gold. He also told of $500 in Government bonds and about $2,000 in currency, which were secreted in various parts of the house, and it was all found just where he said it was. He also had about $l,000 in a bank, some stock and the 40 acre farm, which he disposed of by will, among his nieces and nephews, share and share alike.

His funeral was held yesterday afternoon.
