JAMES GRANVILLE COCHRAN, son of JAMES and MARGARET COCHRAN, was born in Delaware County, Ohio, June 22, l844, and died at his home in Decatur, Iowa, August ll, l925, at the age of 81 years, l month and l9 days. He moved with his parents to Chariton, Iowa, in l85l, living there until l857, when he moved back to Ohio, and lived there until l865, returning to Iowa, later locating near Decatur City, Iowa, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was united in marriage to MISS ELLEN STANLEY, April ll, l869. To this union were born three daughters and two sons: PERRY COCHRAN, of Tingley, Iowa; MRS. MAGGIE O. SEARS, of Decatur, Iowa; MRS. MERNA ADAMS, of Davis City, Iowa; JOHNNIE, dying in infancy and one daughter, ZETTA, passed away in early womanhood.
Besides the children, he leaves to mourn his passing, three grandsons, one brother, JOHN COCHRAN, of Leon, Iowa, and the aged wife, who has shared his joys and sorrows for over 56 years.

MR. COCHRAN made confession of faith in his God several years ago, and while not a regular attendant at church, always contributed to the church and was interested in its welfare. During the Civil War, MR. COCHRAN enlisted with the Union Army and served for a few months. But unfortunately he, as did many others, made the mistake of going home as soon as peace was declared, thus he lost his honorable discharge.
Yet he served his country and helped to sustain our flag and what she stands for. While thousands of our soldiers were at ease and comfort during their declining years, at the financial assistance of our Government, this soldier served his country by earning his livelihood by honest and industrious and ceaseless toil.
