DAVID F. WITTER, son of JACOB and REBECCA WITTER, was born in St. Joseph County, Indiana, March 29, l847, and died at his home in Des Moines, Iowa, October 29, l922, aged 75 years and 7 months.

MR. WITTER came to Iowa with his parents in l849, who settled in Delaware County. In the spring of l853, they came to Decatur County and settled on a farm 5 l/2 miles northwest of Leon (near South Independence.)
On August 4, l863, he enlisted in Co. G. Fourth Iowa Cavalry, and was discharged August 8, l865. He then attended college for two years at the State University at Iowa City, after which he graduated from the Law Department of Drake University at Des Moines, where he made his home, being connected with the Iowa Loan and Trust Co. for forty-seven years, and resided in that city since l868. He was one of the foremost citizens of Des Moines, always taking great interest in public affairs and was a great factor in building up the business interests of that city.

He is survived by two sons, one daughter, and two brothers, W.L. WITTER and J.P. WITTER. His funeral was held on Tuesday, October 30th, and he was laid to rest in Woodlawn Cemetery in Des Moines.
