Thursday, October 5, l922MRS. JANE MCNELLY was born in Jackson County, Indiana, Feb. 25, l82l, and died at the home of her daughter, MRS. NANCY J. DALE, at Ridgeway, Mo., Sept. 25, l922, aged 101 years and 7 months.
With her husband, JOHN MCNELLY, the deceased moved from Jefferson, Clinton County, Indiana to Decatur County, Iowa, in the fall of l864, and settled on a tract of land 2 l/2 miles northeast of Davis City, which for years has been known as the MCNELLY Homestead, and now occupied by her son, JOHN W. MCNELLY. Six children were born to them, as follows: ADAM G. MCNELLY, Casper, Wyoming, deceased; MARY MARGARET DALE, Davis City, Iowa, deceased; RICHARD C. MCNELLY, Lamoni, Iowa; WILLIAM H. MCNELLY, St. Clair County, Missouri; NANCY J. DALE, Ridgeway, Missouri; JOHN W. MCNELLY, Davis City, Iowa.
The MCNELLY home was known far and near as a home of hospitality and good cheer. The husband died here in l890, and after residing on the old homestead for several years, MRS. MCNELLY gave up housekeeping in l904, since which time she made her home with her children, and finally with her daughter, MRS. NANCY J. DALE, at Albany, Mo., and the last six years with her at Ridgeway.
Her remains, accompanied by relatives, were brought to Davis City on Tuesday of last week. Funeral services were held that afternoon at Bethel Baptist Church, which she attended for many years, interment being in the Bethel Cemetery by the side of her husband.
Another pioneer has passed from our midst, and one of the oldest settlers of this country, but her faithful service and kindly deeds will live on and on forever.
