LOU E. LEMON, the fourth child of GEORGE W. and CATHERINE LEMON, was born in Fulton County, Illinois, near Macomb, the first day of August, l847, and departed this life at her home in Leon, the first day of October, l922, being aged 75 years and two months.

The early years of her life were spent in the old home community in Illinois, and here she was united in marriage to JAMES W. LANEY, February 26, l866. To bless this union there came three children, daughters, all of whom survive and deeply mourn the passing of the mother: MRS. S.W. ROBBINS, of Decatur; MRS. J.W. LONG, of Ames; and MRS. S.W. SEARS, of Leon.

MR. and MRS. LANEY moved to Iowa in the fall of l865, settling on a farm three miles north of Decatur, and here establishing their permanent home, residing on this place until the daughters were grown and married, making homes for themselves. Because of the ill health of MR. LANEY, they left the farm twenty-three years ago, moving into Decatur, MR. LANEY passing to the better world ten years ago. About five years ago, MRS. LANEY had built the beautiful home on West Commercial Street, and ever since had made her home in Leon, with the exception of the time passed in the homes of her daughters.

Deceased was converted to Jesus Christ when a girl, uniting with the Christian Church in Illinois. After the establishing of the home near Decatur, she and her husband united with the Methodist Episcopal Church, and to the very last hours she maintained an unfaltering trust in her Lord.

Besides the daughters, there are left to mourn her death, one brother, W.H. LEMON, California; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren, together with a large company of dear friends. The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon from the Leon Methodist Church, being in charge of the Pastor, E.A. Place. The body was laid away to rest beside the husband in the Leon Cemetery.
