A terrible accident occurred Saturday afternoon shortly before 4 o'clock, on the Burlington right of way at the top of the hill north of the cemetery, when a shot gun was discharged, tearing a hole in the arm of MARION OSBORN, the sixteen year old son of county agent, WALTER OSBORN, and before he could be taken to the hospital he had lost so much blood that he passed away before the surgeons could operate on his arm. Along in the afternoon, MARION, in company with Leonard Clites, son of A.M. Clites, the druggist, took their guns and dogs and started hunting along the right of way. When near the top of the hill on the K. & W. track, MARION had shot a load from his gun, a Remington automatic, and was in the act of pumping in another shell, which is done by throwing the barrel back, and was holding the gun by the barrel with the stock resting on the ground when the shell was discharged and the load passed through the under part of his left arm, just below the shoulder, tearing the arteries and muscles out but missing the bone. Leonard Clites, his companion tied a handkerchief around the wound and tried to carry MARION to town, but was not strong enough and after carrying him a short distance, ran to the home of W.K. Smith, where a car was secured and the injured lad was hurried to Dr. Bowman's office and then taken to the hospital, but was barely alive when he reached the city, and although he was given every attention, he had lost so much blood that he passed away soon after reaching the hospital. The funeral was held at the M.E. Church, Monday afternoon, the Leon Schools being dismissed, as MARION was a Junior in the High School, and a general favorite with all of his companions.
