RICHARD D. LOCKWOOD was born July 2l, l872; died at his home near Woodland, Saturday, October 7, l922; being at the time of his death, 50 years, 2 months and l6 days old.

RICHARD was the youngest child of a family of thirteen children of JOHN QUINCY and CHARITY LOCKWOOD, who came to Decatur County, Iowa, from Vermont in an early day. He was born in Decatur County, Iowa and had made this his home practically all his life and here he enjoyed one of the widest circles of friends and acquaintances who deeply and sincerely mourn his death. He was thrown upon his own resources in early boyhood, losing both parents the same week, his mother dying on Monday and his father on Wednesday. Of this large family of children, only four are now left; one brother, JNO. Q., of Woodland and three sisters, MRS. SARAH E. BROWN, Tulsa, Okla.; MRS. NELLIE DOW, Pittsburg, Vermont; MRS. MINNIE ROCHE, Portland, Oregon.

On November 8, l894, MR. LOCKWOOD was united in marriage with MARY VIVIAN BEAVERS. To this union there was born one son who died in infancy. The wife is left to mourn his departure.

MR. LOCKWOOD was converted and joined the Christian Church several years ago, but as this denomination had no church at Woodland, he lent his aid and threw his influence in with those organized churches already here, so all now alike mourn a loss. Until he was compelled through ill health to give up all activities, he took a very active part in church work, especially the Sunday School.

"Tis the end of a precious life,

Of a life well meant.

A soul out of toil and strife,

A soul for Heaven bent."

The funeral services were held at the M.E. Church at Woodland, Monday afternoon, October 9th at l:30. Many relatives and friends gathered to pay the last respects, many more than could find room in the church. The services were conducted by Rev. Chas. W. Reeder of Leon. Interment in Woodland Cemetery. A quartet from Leon, composed of Mr. Jay Colby, Mrs. Campbell, Miss Guire and Mr. Harold Reeder, with Miss Gates as organist, rendered some beautiful songs that were favorites of the deceased. "Truly a good man has gone, but his good work will live for a long time."
