Rites Held For Dartle Cox

"Dartle Hester Cox, 70, of Leon died at the Decatur County Hospital, June
9. Services conducted from the Slade Funeral Home were held at 2 p.m.
Saturday, June 11, with the Rev. Daniel Donelson officiating. Interment was
in the Leon Cemetery.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Ivan Hayes; four brothers, Guy,
Isaac and Grant of Leon; Louis of Marshalltown; three sisters, Mrs. Dorothy
Bennett, Mrs. Bessie Carper and Mrs. Edith Gumm all of Leon."

"Dartle Hester Martin was born the daughter of Everett L. and Mary
Strange Martin January 14, 1896 in Decatur County where she lived all her
life. She died in the Decatur County Hospital Thursday, June 9, 1966.

On January 21, 1920, she was united in marriage to Fred Cox who preceded
her in death. She and her husband adopted a niece, Mrs. Louise Hayes, of
Davenport, as a small baby. Dartle gave her adopted daughter a true mother's
love. Throughout the years, they have maintained a close mother and daughter
relationship.

For the past 22 years she and her sister, Mrs. Bessie Carper, have made
their home together. Bessie was ever mindful of her sister and gave her
loving care until death came.

Dartle was patient through the long months of illness, never complaining
and often reminded her friends and loved ones that she was ready to go when
God called her. (continues on about her religious life..)

Preceding her in death are her husband; Fred Cox; her father and mother,
Mr. and Mrs. Everett Martin; one brother, Ray; and one grandson, Verl Lee
Hayes.

She leaves to mourn her death her daughter and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Ivan
Hayes, one grandson, Marvin Lane Hayes of Davenport; four brothers, Guy,
Isaac, and Grant of Leon; and Louis of Marshalltown; three sisters, Mrs.
Dorothy Bennett, Mrs. Bessie Carper and Mrs. Edith Gumm, all of Leon; and a
host of relatives and friends." (Poem follows)
