JOHN ROSS, son of ROBERT and SARAH ROSS, was born August 3, l845, in Mercer County, Ohio. He came with his parents to Iowa at the age of 6 years where he lived until his death, June 25, l922. On March 24, l864, MR. ROSS enlisted in Co. D 4th Infantry Volunteers and served until the close of the war. He was honorably discharged at Louisville, Kentucky, July 24, l865, and was married to MISS HANNAH EURITT, November 3, l867, who departed this life, March 24, l894. To this union were born l2 children, six of whom are still living, MRS. MAGGIE MONEYSMITH, of Decatur, Iowa; L.F., of Decatur, Iowa; R.L., of Burlington, Iowa; J.G., of Lawrence, Kansas; R.E. and MAUDE, of Decatur, the two last named having lived with and taken care of the father who has been in poor health for a number of years, the last two years being confined to the bed but was not permitted to want for anything that human hands could provide. Besides the six children, he leaves to mourm his passing, seven grandchildren, one brother of Ohio City, Ohio, a sister of
Washington, D.C., one sister, of Van Wert, Ohio, one sister, of Agency, Iowa. MR. ROSS spent practically all of his life in Decatur County, his life being very closely devoted to his family, setting forth and living the principles of a loving father and companion, living on that broad plane of life, principles which causes one to be ever ready to help his neighbors, thereby making the world a better place for his family and friends to live in.

MR. ROSS expressed his readiness to meet the Heavenly Father. We cannot think, we will not think that death came to him as a cold swollen stream, but rather as a ray of sunshine that gave liberty to his imprisoned soul, that it might wing its way to eternal presence when we shall be fully known to Him who brings eternal blessedness to them who are faithful unto death.
