SARAH CORDELIA MELTON was born October 29, l843, at Madison, Ind., and died at her home in Ellston, Iowa, June l8, l922. She was married in March, l859, to JOSEPH BUELL SHERMAN. To this union nine children were born, four of whom survive her. Her husband died January 27, l905.

She confessed her faith in Jesus Christ and united with the Baptist Church near her girlhood home in Indiana. When they came west, the church letter came too and was transferred to the church nearest her, she uniting with the Christian Church of this place when they moved here some twenty years ago.

MRS. SHERMAN has not been well for several months but her courage and indomitable will have kept her up until the last few weeks when she gradually failed, until the end came, Sunday forenoon, at eleven o'clock. Her going marks the passing of another of Ringgold County's oldest residents, having spent forty-six years of her life here. She knew the hardships of pioneering and practiced the golden rule of hospitality as an early settler. She was a faithful Christian, always lamenting that the infirmities of age kept her from service. A splendid mother and a good neighbor. Her going, even at the end of a good fight, faithfully fought, will leave a gap that cannot be filled. She leaves to mourn her home going, her children, MRS. GRACE HUTCHINSON, of Leon, Iowa; MRS. MARY GRACE, Longmont, Colo.; L.R., of Beaconsfield and A.W., of Arispe; thirteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and a host of friends, because to know her was to love her.

Funeral services were held Tuesday forenoon at l0:30 o'clock from the Methodist Church in Ellston, conducted by Rev. Elta M. Nichols, assisted by Rev. Lister, of the Christian Church at Kellerton, Iowa.
