Seldom has so sad an occurrence come to this community as the death of little two-year-old HAROLD SNYDER, last Saturday morning as a result of his finding and drinking some carbolic acid, which had been thrown under an old building years ago. His parents, MR. and MRS. HALLARD SNYDER, moved this spring to the old Riggle house in the southeast part of town. About two months before, a smoke house or coal house had been raised and left about ten inches above ground. For several days, the baby had been interested in looking under the building where a hen was hatching. His father says he would work for hours to get a cork from a bottle. So, when he found the bottle as he played about under the sills of the building, Friday, he naturally tried to work the cork out of it, apparently drank some of it, and his cheek was burned where he brushed the smarting fluid from his lips. His mother heard his cry and recognized the odor of the liquid; she summoned help at once and two physicians worked for hours with all the means they knew to counteract the poison; for a time that evening there were indications that they might succeed but his system was so weakened that he passed away next morning. The condition of the carbolic acid solution in the bottle and the imprint in the ground showed that it had been deposited there long ago. It was a square pint bottle and was about half full when examined later.
