Detectives have been employed to locate the persons who stole $2,450 which had been buried by DR. A.W. REYNOLDS in his garden at Caledonia near Mt. Ayr, says a dispatch sent from that place to the Register and Leader and appearing in the Des Moines paper's issue of Monday. The work of the detectives has so far been unsuccessful.

DR. REYNOLDS has been practicing at Caledonia, an inland town, ten miles southeast of Mount Ayr, for the past fifteen years. He has refused to deposit his money in banks. He has grown wealthy. What actual cash he has on hand he has been in the habit of burying in the ground around his home.

According to DR. REYNOLDS' story, he received $2,000 payment from a farmer to cancel a loan. The money came in Friday night. REYNOLDS had arranged to take a patient to Kansas City on Saturday. He says that Saturday morning at 3 o'clock he buried the $2,000 in his garden. He went to Kansas City and returned Saturday afternoon. When a prospective borrower appeared, REYNOLDS went to look for the roll of bills he had buried. The money had disappeared.

In addition to the $2,000 which he had just received, REYNOLDS said he had buried $450 which he had on hand--the total amount being $2,450. The money had been placed in a fruit jar.

Many persons in the vicinity of Caledonia were aware that DR. REYNOLDS would not deposit in banks. He was not afraid the institutions were not sound, but he liked to have his money around so he could make a loan without loss of time.
