Some of you know that my mother, Dorothy Turpen/Price/Shull passed away a few months ago. She was very excited about all of my research along genealogical lines, however, didn't live long enough to realize the many connections I've made. She would be very excited to see some of her "traditional bits and pieces" coming together in this, "the rest of the story" fashion.

One of her "story memories" was of an early ancestor being sent to gather firewood, subsequently abducted by Indians, then living with them for several years. That was all she "knew", but a tidbit that was almost lost on my generation since my wanderings have mostly included names and dates---some kind of starting point to search from. I'm still not sure which side of her family many of these "rememberings" emanate from, so imagine my surprise when I had a wonderful person named Coleen show up on my Internet doorstep with THIS defining news!

That Moses Turpen was an ancestral grand-father wasn't news until about a year ago when I learned that there were actually three Moses Turpen's...1st, 2nd and 3rd. In the mix were several other Moses that represented cousins, uncles, etc. so sorting them out has been interesting. I could never have managed without the help of Ruth Cox and Terri Carr---cousins that I've been "introduced" to thanks to the web!

This story dates back to before the introduction of Moses Turpen #1, and is about Jane (Jenny) Stephenson's family. As it turns out, "Jenny" was the young girl of the story handed down to Mom. "Jenny" ultimately married Moses Turpen I, so was Mom's great-great-grandmother!

Thanks to sites like this one, and the diligent work of people providing forums like this one, I have a tiny remembrance turned into a family history that I might never have had any knowledge of. I've not only been introduced to Jane Stephenson, my ggg-grandmother, but now have the names of other family members and "ties" to people I might never have known. A heartfelt "thank-you" to all who have made it possible.

And where do I want to go today? Hmmm---I remember Mom talking about rumor surrounding a possible link to a highwayman in Merry Olde England....1600's....but, that's another story......
