Decatur County Journal
November l9, l9l4

C.G. BIDDISON, of the BIDDISON Coal and Grain
Company, has been
appointed local representative of the Belgian
Relief Association of Iowa
and will at once begin the collection of a
car load of corn which will
be shipped from Leon, east, to the Atlantic
Coast not later than
November 30, where the cereal will be loaded
on board a steamer and
rushed across the Atlantic to the relief of
the starving victims of the
terrible European War in the devastated
Country of Belgium.

The object of the Association is a most
commendable one and every farmer
should contribute at least a few bushels of
corn that he may assist in
feeding the destitute women, children and
aged men of Belgium, which has
been laid waste during the present terrible
war. The people of Belgium
are without shelter in thousands and
thousands of cases and all
including children are suffering from hunger
as well as cold and
exposure. The people of the United States
have started a great relief
campaign and the people of Decatur County
should do their part. The
movement in Iowa is organized under the
approval of Governor Clarke and
the Department of State of the United States
Government.

All contributions of money, corn or other
food supplies will be
forwarded from Iowa to the eastern seaboard
and from there will be
transported in vessels furnished by the
Belgian Relief Commission
consigned to Herbert C. Hoover, Chairman of
the Commission. Mr.
Hoover's Organization will then distribute
the corn and other supplies
to the people in Belgium who are in need.

Further particulars of the movement can be
learned by calling upon MR.
BIDDISON who will give directions for the
delivery of anything you wish
to contribute to the relief of the destitute
people of Belgium.
