J.G. EARLY and family returned last Saturday
from their visit in Guthrie
County.

MRS. H.J. CLOSE and DR. DEWOLF returned
yesterday from their visit at
Mt. Pleasant.

County Attorney MCVAY had legal business
which took him to Des Moines
Tuesday.

Court Reporter C.A. HAWKINS went to Mt. Ayr
Monday where Judge Tedford
opened court.

V.R. MCGINNIS departed last Friday for
Chicago, on a combined business
and pleasure trip.

WILEY HOUSEHOLDER, of Chariton, was in this
city yesterday in the
interest of the Chariton Fair.

E.G. FOREMAN and L.P. COVINGTON spent a
couple of days in Des Moines the
first of the week.

DR. CHAS. VAN WERDEN returned to Des Moines
yesterday, after a visit of
several weeks in this city.

DR. and MRS. A. HAMILTON, of Blockley, passed
through Leon Thursday,
returning from the state fair.

WILL HAM went to Derby Sunday and is acting
as station agent during the
absence of the regular agent.

MISS CLARE LUNBECK returned to Charles City
Monday, after visiting a
week with her parents in this city.

MISS NELLIE KLINE returned from Van Wert
Saturday, where she secured a
fall term of school to teach.

MRS. MARION STOOKEY and daughter returned
from a weeks' visit with
friends in Des Moines last Friday.

W.H. CLARK and his sister, MRS. WM. BIGGS,
returned Saturday from
visiting their brother at Troy, Kas.

MISS CLARE WEMPLE, of Garden Grove, was in
Leon last Thursday, as she
was returning from Des Moines.

O.L. ELLINWOOD and wife, of Manitou,
Colorado, arrived yesterday for a
visit with their relatives in this city.

ROBERT BOWSHER and wife of Princeton, Mo.,
are visiting in Leon this
week with their daughter, MRS. C.M. KOHLER.

MRS. DR. DUFF and son CHARLES, of Garden
Grove, visited over Sunday in
this city, the guest of MRS. CREED BOBBITT.

SAM WEBSTER, a former resident of Eden
Township, but for the pat few
years living in Mills County, is here on a
visit.

MRS. J.C. STOCKTON and son LACON, returned
from Des Moines, Thursday,
where they were attending the state fair.

JAMES BEAVERS, of Woodland, returned last
Thursday from Fair County,
Neb. He was unable to buy any cattle in that
locality.

MR. and MRS. J.J. CARTER, of Topeka, Kas.,
arrived in the city yesterday
and are visiting the family of WM.
VANNOSTRAND.

ROBERT SMITH, of Eden Township, a graduate of
the Leon High School, went
to Iowa City Monday to enter the State
University.

MR. CLARK VANNOSTRAND, of Fairfield, returned
to his home Sunday, after
visiting a few days in Leon with his brother,
WM. VANNOSTRAND.

NOAH WARNSTAFF, of Grand River, was in Leon
yesterday. He has recently
returned from a western trip, but is not much
improved in health.

PEARL KING, a former Decatur County boy, now
one of the leading
attorneys of Colorado, located at Manitou,
was in Leon Tuesday on legal
business.

LEW VAN WERDEN returned Monday from Des
Moines. We are pleased to see
him looking more like his old self, being
much improved in health.

Our young friend JOHN OGDEN, who graduated
from the Leon High School
this year, went to Iowa City Monday to enter
the State University.

MRS. DR. T.M. FULLERTON, of Princeton, Mo.,
visited several days in this
city the past week with MRS. F.F. THOMPSON,
returning to her home
Tuesday.

V.R. MCGINNIS returned from Chicago Monday,
where he met a brother he
had not seen for eight years. He went to Mt.
Ayr the same day to attend
court.

MR. and MRS. JACOB WARNER SR., returned
Friday from Garden Grove, where
they had been spending a few days with their
son, the Garden Grove
Postmaster.

AUNT JULIA WELDON, OF LONG CREEK TOWNSHIP,
ONE OF THE OLDEST RESIDENTS
OF DECATUR COUNTY, WAS VISITING IN THIS CITY
LAST WEEK WITH THE FAMILY
OF CREED BOBBITT.

CHARLEY COFFIN went to Humeston on the train
Sunday afternoon and then
rode his wheel to Allerton. He shipped his
steam swing from Allerton to
Eldon Monday.

GEO. W. LEFOLLETT was in Leon the first of
the week, having been called
here by the death of his father, which
occurred near Pleasanton. The old
gentleman was 84 years old.

GEO. E. HURST came in from Chicago Friday,
after spending ten days at
St. Louis and Chicago buying new goods. And
as usual he secured an
unusually fine line of bargains.

MR. and MRS. C.B. FRASE left Monday for an
extended visit in the south.
Principally in Tennessee. They expect to
take in the Atlanta Exposition
during the trip.--GARDEN GROVE EXPRESS.

*AUNT JULIA WELDON was my ggg grandmother.
Her father was JOHN
MCDANIEL, who left for Oregon in l852. This
is the first reference I
have found to her.
