Mrs. R. J. GOBBLE returned home Friday afternoon.
Mrs. S. METIER returned from Illinois yesterday morning.
G. M. PENCE and little daughter came up from Centerville Friday.
Geo. M. RUSSELL returned from Peoria last week after visiting the World's
Fair.Rufus GATES came from Redding Tuesday. He is thinking of locating here.
Mrs. J. M. LILLARD and the children went to Pleasanton Friday to visit her
relatives.Owen RUFFCORN and Ab MITCHELL of Weldon, were in town Tuesday evening on
business.A couple of strangers were in town Tuesday looking up farms. VAIL & WEMPLE
can sell them a good one.A. J. ALLEN, of Leon, was up Thursday looking after his fences in connection
with his candidacy for sheriff.Mrs. FRASE accompanied her brother, Geo. KISHLER, and niece to their home in
Tiffin, Ohio, via the World's Fair.F. H. JORDAN the Hawkeye traveling agent, was in town Tuesday looking after
the interests of that justly popular paper.Miss Jessie WILSON returned home from Wisconsin Monday via World's Fair,
where she spent a very enjoyable two weeks.Noah BATTLE, after an absence of nearly two years, returned to this city
yesterday morning. He is still as good natured as ever.F. E. STEARNS returned from the World's Fair Wednesday and went to Allerton
to keep store while his partner, G. M. MILLER, goes to the Fair.Rev. T. G. ATEN of New York, Iowa was in town Monday on business. Mr. ATEN's
new church is in progress of erection at Bethlehem on his circuit.Sheriff LAFOLLETTE was on town over Tuesday night. George says that if the
convention after a few ballots don't select a candidate for sheriff, he would
not object to being the dark horse.Mrs. Jane FITCH and her children, Charles, Laura, Flora and Frank all of
Chariton, attended Mrs. SHAW's funeral Saturday as did Mr. and Mrs. C. A.
MCCARTNEY, of WEldon, and Mrs. ULM and daughter, Zanie, of Humeston.Mrs. Dye REEDER wrote to Mr. SHAW's family that she was unable to attend the
funeral by reason of the sudden death of Mrs. DILSAVER, the widow of Tip
DILSAVER, who died suddenly at the residence of her son-in-law, Horace FARQUHAR.M. V. STEWART and son, B. A., started for Duluth yesterday on a short visit
to Mr. STEWART's brother and to consult physicians at that place in regard to
Birna's throat. He has been suffering for some time with a throat trouble. It
