The following very complimentary notice of our new tailor, Mr. Joseph MATHER
appears in the columns of the "Comber (Ontario) Herald," for November 2, 1893
- "A Staples correspondent writes as follows: It was expected that our
esteemed townsman Joseph MATHER would have returned home again from the World's Fair
but it is understood that pressing business engagements precluded his return,
to the disappointment of his many friends throughout the village of Staples.
His charity and benevolence shown to the bereaved widows, and orphans when
the village was plunged into sorrow through the terrible explosion of a year
ago, stamped him a man that shared the sorrow of others; his zeal always alert in
the cause of temperance and Christianity, marked him a man who lived for the
public good. Through failing health our worthy friend has had to leave his
native country to sojourn in Lamoni, Iowa, where his meritous life no doubt will
gain for him there, as it has done here, a universal love for our good Joe."
