It is reported that J.C. FRISBY, of Andover,
Mo., whose store was
burglarized last week, traced the robbers to
a house a few miles south
of this place. He then left a couple of men
to watch the house while he
went for a search warrant. While he was
gone, by some means, the
occupants of the house gained knowledge of
his intentions and not being
able to conceal the goods, stood off the
watchers, and burned them. The
amount of goods burned is estimated at about
$300. The people in the
vicinity of the house say that the smell of
burning rubber was strong in
the air almost all night, and that the blaze
from fire made by the goods
would sometimes be more than two feet above
the top of the chimney. The
next morning when FRISBY and the constable
searched the house, not a
trace of the goods could be found.

The business men of our city have organized
themselves into a committee
of night watchers. There are 30 of them, and
2 men watch each night.
They think this is better than to employ a
nightwatch at a salary of $l
per night.

The infant child of HOWARD BENNETT's was
buried last Monday.

MISS CORA ARNOLD, who is teaching in the
grammar department at Ridgeway,
MO., is visiting her mother, MRS. SAMUEL
WOOD, during the holidays.

F.M. FREEMAN sold another of his St. Bernard
dogs to a gentleman in
Ottumwa, price $30. FRANK handles the best
breeds and is making money
in the business. He is getting to be quite
an authority on dogology and
is ready to answer all questions concerning
the same provided a stamp is
enclosed for reply.

DR. FRED HORTON who has been attending the
noted School of Dental
Surgery at Kansas City, Mo., is at home for a
few days. He has proved
himself a close student and we bespeak for
him success in his chosen
profession.

PROF. J. VERNON HARRISON, of of Missouri's
best teachers, was a visitor
at the Davis City School this week.

MRS. JAMES CLARK, of St. Joe, Mo., is
visiting old friends at Davis
Town. It seems that all of the old settlers
of this place who leave
here, wander back to drink at the river once
more.

It is reported that the Masonic Lodge of this
place has rented the upper
story of the Jeffries Building and will move
into the same in the near
future.

DR. J.H. ROBINSON went to Chicago last week
where he bought an immense
stock of holiday goods for his trade. They
will be on exhibition this
week.

Our enterprising Editor has moved his
printing office into more elegant
quarters, and after the holidays he will be
able to give his subscribers
a paper that is second to none in the county.
Success to him.
