"A BRILLIANT WEDDING"

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

The wedding of MISS LILLIAN ALVERDA DEKALB,
second daughter of DR. and
MRS. B.D. DEKALB, and DR. HENRY BENNETT
MCKLVEEN, of Coin, was
celebrated yesterday at l2:30 o'clock p.m.,
at the elegant country home
of the bride's parents at DeKalb. The
wedding was one of the most
notable and brilliant society events of the
year in southern Iowa, and
the guests were from all over southern Iowa,
special trains being run
over the C.B.& Q. from Chariton, the H.& S.
from Humeston and the D.M. &
K.C. from Leon to accommodate the wedding
guests. l75 invitations were
issued and about l25 guests were present.

The ceremony was performed in the west parlor
by the Rev. B.E. Utz,
Pastor of the Des Moines Christian Church,
the wedding party being
preceeded into the room by two little boys
and two tiny girls, carrying
white satin ribbons, forming an aisle through
which they passed to a
position between the two south windows, under
a lace canopy from which
was suspended a lover's knot of smilax. MR.
W.W. THOMPSON, of
Centerville rendered Mendlessohn's wedding
march on the piano.

The beautiful bride was dressed in pure white
Dutchess satin en train,
with pearl trimmings, short puffed sleeves
with suede gloves reaching to
the shoulder, and white satin slippers. Her
only ornaments were lillies
of the valley.

The bridesmaid was MISS HELENE R. DEKALB,
sister of the bride, who wore
a becoming costume of sea foam green crepe
over satin of the same shade,
with short sleeves, and suede gloves, and
slippers to match. She carried
pink tea roses.

The groom was attended by MR. J.E. LOCKWOOD,
of Chariton, as best man.

Immediately after the ceremony, an elaborate
wedding breakfast was
served in the dining rooms, the menu
consisting of venison, turkey, cold
ham, salads, fruits of all kinds, etc. The
tables were beautifully
arranged in an open square, in the center of
which was a large orange
tree, heavily ladened with ripened fruit. In
the bride's cake had been
placed a gold ring, and MISS HELENE DEKALB,
the bridesmaid, was the
fortunate one who found the ring in her piece
of cake. The old saying
is that the one who finds the ring will be
the next one married.

The presents were elaborate and costly.

The happy couple left on the 2:l3 train for
Coin, where the groom has a
cozy home all furnished and ready to go to
housekeeping. They will be
"at home" to their friends after Jan. l5,
l895.

The bride is a beautiful and accomplished
young lady, the daughter of
DR. and MRS. B.D. DEKALB, one of the
wealthiest and most respected
families of southern Iowa. She was born at
DeKalb, and graduated with
honors at Humeston Normal College.

The groom comes from one of the first
families of Chariton, being the
eldest son of DR. J.A. MCKLVEEN, one of the
leading physicians of the
state. He graduated with high honors from
the College of Physicians and
Surgeons of Chicago, and has established a
fine practice at Coin, where
he located.
