The Iowa State Board of Health has issued an
order that all persons over
the age of one year must be vaccinated, as a
precaution against an
epidemic of smallpox, which is becoming
alarming in its ravages in
adjoining states, and quite a number of cases
have appeared in this
state. The order is as follows:

For the purpose of preserving and improving
the public health, and
preventing the spread of the disease known as
smallpox, the following
rules and regulations are hereby ordered:
First--All persons in this
state over the age of one year who have not
been vaccinated, or who in
the opinion of the local Board of Health of
the district or jurisdiction
in which such persons reside or are found,
who do not furnish
satisfactory evidence of protection from
smallpox, are hereby ordered to
be vaccinated. Second--Local Boards of
Health and all officers who
compose said boards, and all sheriffs,
constables, city marshals and
police officers within their respective
jurisdictions, are hereby
directed to enforce the fore going order as
soon as practicable, and so
far as said order shall apply to the pupils
of any public or private
school or to the teachers thereof. The
officers of the school
district in which such school is held shall
also require its
enforcement.
