Everything is quiet here and business is
dull, owing to the busy time
with the farmers.

I saw BILLY ALBAUGH on our streets; reckon he
is thinking of locating
here.

The good people here had a pleasant time on
the Fourth. The day was not
celebrated only in the morning and evening.
All were merry and say they
had good music.

Hay harvest has commenced and some are
cutting their wheat and rye.
What I have seen is very good.

Corn is growing rapidly and the prospect is
good for a fair crop yet if
the frost keeps off.

Born, on the 4th inst., to MR. and MRS. WM.
HORNER, a girl, weight 9
pounds.

The railroaders will pitch their tents l l/2
miles north of Decatur.
This looks like business.

MRS. RETTIE B. MANN and daughter and a little
daughter of N.W. ROWELL,
of Afton, are visiting friends in Decatur.
We knew MRS. MANN when she
was a young girl, but had not met her for
years.

Is there no law to close our business houses
on Sunday? These things
should not be.

I see a number of Leon folks in town. I
expect they think this is a
railroad town. Well, it is going to be soon,
and this is the very place
for a good business man to come.

The farmers on the river bottoms have given
up the most of their land,
as it was too wet to rid their corn of the
weeds.

Decatur I.O.O.F. had their installation last
Saturday night. Had a good
time.

Now is the time for the people to talk up the
bridge matter, as all the
fords across Grand River are impassable.

J.N. GRAYSON, our insurance man, met with
quite a mishap one day last
week. He called at a MR. CRAIG's, northwest
of Davis City, to insure
him, when he was attacked by a big dog taking
him by the arm, piercing
through his heavy coat, and lacerating his
arm severely. I cannot say
what might have happened if MRS. CRAIG had
not interfered. It was
feared MR. GRAYSON would have to give up his
business, but he wishes me
to say to those wanting to insure that he has
one hand left, and a call
on him will convince the most skeptical.

MRS. H.C. WATSON has been quite sick, but is
improving.

MISS JULIA PECK is sick, but not dangerous.

Someone is going to have some costs to pay if
those sidewalks are not
fixed. I have spoken of this before and our
council has failed to act.
If you can't do this throw up and we will put
in men that will.

D. COR.
