DAVE SHEHNE is giving a series of dances at his residence.

THOS. THARP raised seven eighths of an acre of cane which yielded ll0
gallons of molasses.

Born - Sept. 28, to MR. and MRS. W.J. REYNOLDS, a son named EVERTT
WELLINGTON. MCCULLOUGH also reports a new addition to his family in the
shape of a big girl.

S.H. AMOS and PROF. CRAG spoke to our citizens Saturday eve., before the
election, on the political topic of the day.

REV. J. COSSELIN preached to an attentive audience at the REYNOLD's
School House last Sabbath.

At Tuesday's election T.J. SILVERS was alected assessor to fill the
vacancy caused by the death of O.C. BRANT.

Independent Sunday School closed Oct. 7th.

Independent has long been our leading Sunday School and our energetic
citizens will revive it again next year; the average attendance as
reported by the Secretary was 34.

DIED - At his residence four miles west of High Point, Oct. 7th, MR.
BENJAMIN HAWKINS. UNCLE BENNIE, as he was familiarly called, was one of
the oldest settlers of this township, and had been feeble for many years
and his departure was not unexpected.
