John Oliver Staley was born near Indianapolis, Indiana, August 8th 1850, and
died at his home in Des Moines, January 13, 1922. He moved with his parents
to Missouri when he was 10 years of age, later coming to Clarke County,
Iowa, where they located on a farm near Woodburn, in 1872. He married
Jemina [sic] N. Ratliff of Woodburn and to this union seven children were
born, one daughter, Rosamond, dying in infancy, and one son, Royal, who died
at the age of 25 years; Mrs. Geo. Stanhope of Loma, Montana; Mrs. Chas.
McNeese of Warrick, North Dakota; Frank B. Staley of near New Virginia;
Daniel E. Staley of Waterloo, Iowa; W. Archelaus Staley of El Passo, Texas.
Mrs. Staley died in 1808 [sic] and in 1909 he was married to Miss Lucy
Hoffman of Leon, Iowa who survives him. Besides his wife and children he
leaves one brother and one sister, Peter Staley of Oklahoma, Mrs. Lou Teague
of Smyrna, also two half brothers and two half sisters, Sherman and Ed.
Staley, Mrs. Ed. Oliver of Clarke County and Mrs Chas. Cartwright of Des
Moines. Funeral services were held at the Friends Church at Smyrna, Tuesday
afternoon, Conducted by Rev. Iluff, interment at the Friends Cemetery. -
