'Grand River Township Gas.'

-----------------
As you seem to desire the news from all parts of the county I will give the
items from Elk Creek.

Everybody is busy with their farm work.

Corn shucking has commenced and the crop for those who could work it is very
fair. There will be plenty of good seed corn here for the county without
going to Kansas or Nebraska. Seed from abroad did not "pan out" well. So
much water hurt the rye and oats, drowned some corn and temporarily crippled
politicians, but it will all come out right in the sweet by and by. Every
farmer in Grand River Township seems to be prospering. None are getting
very rich and few are poor.

Cold weather is coming on, and people are preparing to go into winter
quarters on full rations, while young America will be dressed up for school
to acquire a knowledge of business and morals and a big lot of mischief.

The young folks are improving themselves with quilting bees, husking bees,
kissing bees, and occasionally balance to partners as they trip the light
fantastic toe.

-- Yours,

TOOTH PICK.
