Biographical and Historical Record of Ringgold and Decatur Counties, Iowa, (Lewis Publishing Company (1887)), p. 688:
"E. P. WOODARD, farmer and stock-raiser, lives on section 30, Long Creek Township, where he owns 120 acres of land. He was born in Hocking County, Ohio, in 1828, son of Ichabod and Sarah (Bennett) Woodard, natives of New Jersey. He was reared on a farm in Ohio, came to Wapello County, Iowa, in 1850, and to Decatur County in 1857. He was married in this county in 1858, to Martha McKee, born in Ohio, in 1842, daughter of John and Mary A. McKee, natives of Virginia. The following are their children -- Isaac C.; Amos P., married Lulu Pray, and they have one child -- Nellie M.; Clara, married William Munson, and they have one child -- Ephraim Abraham L., George S., Mary J., Alanson, Nellie M., and John. Mr. Woodard has served as county supervisor, school director and in other township offices. He taught school twelve years. He was formerly a member of the Odd Fellow order. Mr. Woodard commenced life with no property, and had to work out by day's work to get a start. Postoffice, De Kalb."
