Elaska (Lack) Harger moved from Gentry Co., Mo., with his mother and father, Sedley and Salome Harger to a farm in Decatur Co. in 1878. Lack, as he was commonly known, spent his early life farming near Decatur, Iowa. He married Irene E. Kier in 1905. Lack and Irene had four children: Vera, Floyd, Edgar, and Nellie.

The Harger family moved to Grand River from the farm in 1919. They first lived in a house located just west of the Grand River Park and later moved to a home in the east part of town, still owned by their daughter, Vera.

Lack worked for the Standard Oil Co. as a tank wagon salesman for seven years. In 1926 he helped organize the Grand River Oil Co. He worked as a tank wagon salesman, manager or service station operator until his retirement in 1957.

His son, Edgar, bought into the business in 1936 and later became manager and held that position until his retirement in 1979. Edgar married Dorothy Sears in 1936 and they had one daughter Rosalie.
