BIOGRAPHY ~ THOMAS CHARLES "TOM" PATTON
Graceland University, Lamoni, IowaThomas Charles "Tom" Patton was born on November 18, 1940, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Thomas B. and Edith Evelyn (Chandler) Patton.
Tom went the fast track from Graceland student to Graceland faculty member, obtaining his B.A. from Graceland in 1966 and returned a year later to teach psychology after finishing his M.S. degree from Indiana University. He eventually completed his Ed.D. from the University of Northern Colorado in 1972.
Tom build a reputation among students as instructing hard classes, but pyschology majors ultimately learned that Dr. Patton's goal wasn't just to have his students learn psychology, but to master it. He continued teaching at Graceland until a week before the end of the 1995 fall semester and died four months later, March 25, 1996 at Lamoni, following a four-year battle with cancer. [Interment was made at Rose Hill Cemetery, Lamoni.]
Tom married Claudia Lee Chandler on June 12, 1965, Chicago, Illinois.
