(Lewis Publishing Company (1887)), Pp. 601-02:G. P. WALKER, Hamilton Township, postoffice, Pleasanton. Among the intelligent pioneers of Decatur County who have been identified with the county for nearly forty years, is the subject of this sketch, who is a native of Herkimer County, New York, born in [November 9] 1809, a son of TRUMAN and ADA (POWELL) WALKER. Our subject was reared law and was admitted to the bar. After arriving at the age of manhood he located in the Southern States, where he engaged in teaching and practicing law for several years. He was united in marriage February 2, 1836, to Miss ELIZABETH PIERCE. To this union were born three children – JOHN, MARY E., WILLIAM H. In the spring of 1849 our subject located in Hamilton Township, Decatur County, where he has since resided. He is one among the oldest pioneers now living in Decatur County.
NOTE: Gideon P. Walker died June 19, 1889. Elizabeth (Pierce) Walker died on November 22, 1891, Kalamazoo MI. Mary E. Walker was born in 1840 and died in 1915. Interments were made at Hamilton Cemetery, Pleasanton IA.
John Powell Walker was born February 3, 1838; Civil War Veteran, Co. C 3rd NY Light Artillery, and died June 6, 1916, Kalamazo MI; married Mary Jane Fetty (1839-1905).
