O. E. STILES, farmer and stock-riser, Garden Grove Township, resides on section 18, where he owns 140 acres of land under a state of good cultivation. He was born in Calhoun County, Illinois, in [October 7] 1830, a son of AARON [and NANCY (COLLINS)] STILES. His parents died when he was very young. He came to Decatur County in May, 1874. He went to California in 1854 and was engaged in mining one year, and then was on a milk ranch two years, and in 1857 returned to Decatur County. In December, 1869, he married RHODA J. NIXSON, who was born in Illinois, in [September 11] 1848, a daughter of JAMES and ELIZABETH (LILLARD) NIXON. He went to California again, and lived in Colusa County until 1874. He has paid special attention to stock-raising, and has a fine heard of cattle, eight of them being short-horns and the rest graded. He has held the offices of township assessor and school director. In politics he is a Democrat. He is a member of the Masonic fraternity. Mr. and Mrs. STILES have two children – DAISY M. and BERTIE.

NOTE: Oscar Edgar Stiles died April 8, 1918, Garden Grove IA. Rhoda Jane (Nixon) Stiles died December 21, 1920, Garden Grove IA. Daisy Mae (Stiles) Rosengrant was born January 3, 1871, Marysville CA, and died February 21, 1962, Garden Grove IA. Daisy's husband, William Sherman "Willie" Rosengrant was born September 19, 1866, the son of Etna and Mary Jane (Fox) Rosengrant, and died November 16, 1953, Garden Grove IA. All interments were made at Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove IA.

Bert "Bertie" Stiles was born October 26, 1882, and died February 14, 1936, Leon IA where he was interred.
