DANIEL STEARNS, merchant and banker of Garden Grove, was born in Jefferson County, New York, April 12, 1828, son of GEORGE and SOPHIA (BAKER) STEARNS, natives of Vermont and New York respectively. Further mention is made of the parents in the sketch of A. B. STERN. Mr. STERNS is a partner of his brother, A. B. STEARN, in the mercantile and banking business, and they are farming about 2,000 acres of land. He was married in Decatur County in 1861 to MARY L. SIMMONS, daughter of HENRY and LOUISA SIMMONS, who was born in New York City, in 1838. They have one child, HARVEY at home.

NOTE: Daniel died November 9, 1892. Mary "Louisa" (Simmons) Stearns was born May 11, 1847, and died February 14, 1907. They were interred at Garden Grove Cemetery, Garden Grove IA.
