THOMAS REARDON, section 14, Grand River Township, was born in Franklin County, New York, November 20, 1836, a son of WILLIAM and CATHERINE REARDON. His father was a native of Ireland, and at the age of eleven years went to England, where he remained till after his marriage with CATHEIRN CURTEN, who was a native of Glasgow, Scotland. They were the parents of seven children – JOHN, JAMES, THOMAS, WILLIAM, MARY, SIMON and ELLEN. THOMAS REARDON was reared in his native State till he reached the age of eleven years, when his parents removed to Grundy County, Illinois. His early life was spent in working on the farm and attending the common schools, where he received a fair education. He was married August 21, 1860, to Miss JENNIE HAMPSON, of Kendall County, Illinois, a daughter of GEORGE and MARIA (CASH) KENDALL, her father being a native of Cheshire, England. To her parents were born nine children – HANNAH, EDWARD, JAMES, JOSPEH, THOMAS, HENRY, MARY, JENNIE and GEORGE; Mrs. Reardon being next the youngest. Mr. and Mrs. REARDON have four children – MINNIE A., FRE, CLIFF and ERNEST GLENN. Mr. REARDON left Grundy County, Illinois, in 1875, and come to Decatur County, Iowa, when he located on his present farm in Grand River Township, where he has since followed general farming and stock-raising. He has improved his land from a state of nature, which is now well adapted to stock-raising, his farm being divided into different fields and lots. He has a comfortable and commodious residence, where he is surrounded with all the necessary comforts of life, and his farm buildings are conveniently arranged for the accommodation of his stock. He devotes considerable attention to raising, feeding and dealing in stock, and usually has on his farm from 100 to 250 head of cattle, twenty to forty head of horses, and from 200 to 300 hogs. In politics Mr. REARDON is Republican. Both socially and financially he is classed among the best citizens of the township where he makes his home. Mrs. REARDON was born June 13, 1841, she being a native of Jefferson County, New York, where she lived till seventeen years of age, removing then with her parents to Kendall County, Illinois, where she lived till her marriage.
