Linda Louise Roe
Graceland University, Lamoni, IowaThe daughter of Ruth and the late Stanley ROWE, Linda Louise ROE was an all-around athlete at Glenwood High School, Glenwood, Iowa. Breaking Iowa's Indoor State Record in the high jump [5' 4 3/4"] in 1969, Linda became Glenwood's first state champion. She received the George PETERSON Award for Track and Field, and was a four time state champion in the discus and high jump events. She ranked 1st in the javelin at the National USTFF Meet where she set a national recod, and she ranked 12 in the nation for the high jump and 16th in the Pentathlon.
As a student at Graceland College, Linda competed in field hockey, basketball, track and softball. She was the captain of the basketball team and was selected twice to play on the Iowa College Field Hockey Team.
Linda participated in two National Track Championships, placing 5th in the discus at the first meet. At the second meet, she placed third in discus, third in javelin and fifth in the shot put. She narrowly missed qualifying for the Olympic Trials.
Linda graduated from Graceland in 1976 with a B.A. in health, physical education and recreation.
Linda was one of the first members of the IGHSAU Track and Field Hall of Fame in 1979. She enjoyed a long teaching and coaching career.
Still active in athletics, Linda has won twelve medals in the first three years of the Iowa Games. She runs in many 5k and 10k races. At the National State Games in St. Louis, Missouri in 1989, Linda won three events.
Linda Louise ROE was inducted into Graceland University's Hall of Fame in 1989. She was a 2000 Hall of Fame inductee for the shot put, discus, high jump, long jump and all-around athlete at Glenwood High School.
