Vaughn C. York

Vaughn C. York was born February 8, 1908, in Davis County, Iowa, and departed this life June 24th, 1978, at his home in Kahoka, Missouri, at the age of 70 years, 4 months and 16 days, after a prolonged illness.

He was the second of nine children born to Bert and Cynthis Dabney York, who reside in Wyaconda, Missouri.

Vaughn was preceded in death by one brother Woodrow.

Vaughn was united in marriage to Marcella "Molly" Kelly on June 8, 1931, in Cedar County, Iowa. To this union two children, a daughter, Patricia, and a son, Jerry, were born.

Vaughn and his wife owned and operated farm lands the most part of their married life and retired in 1974 at 455 Murphy St., Kahoka, Missouri.

He was a member of the Savannah, Iowa, Christian Church.

Vaughn and his ever present smile, will be greatly missed by his wife, Molly; daughter Patty and her husband Stanley, son, Jerry and wife, Brenda, along with the five grandchildren; one step-granddaughter; five great-grandchildren and a host of friends and relatives. Vaughn has seven remaining sisters and brothers. Two sisters, Geneva Lake and Betty Lawrence and families of California; one sister, Nelda Stark and family of Kahoka, one brother Gilbert and wife, Edna, of Queen City, Missouri, one brother, Robert of Wyaconda, Missouri and his family and two brothers, Herbert and Don and their families of California.

Visitation was held Monday at the Gerth Chapel with Services on Tuesday, June 27, 1978, at 2 p.m. in Gerth & Baskett Chapel in Memphis, Missouri. The Rev. Kenneth Campbell officiated. Interment was in the Memphis Cemetery. Body bearers were Cully Kline, Larry Childress, Tom Huggins, John Aylward, Robert Szawiel and Donnie Paris. Honorary bearers were Clark Miller, Willard Mohr, Donald Mohr, Harry Callahan, Alvie Lancaster, Bob Voore, Dale Wallman, and Virgil Walker.
