Cora Francis

Cora Francis was born to David and Mary Harl Gooden January 16, 1886, in Scotland County, Missouri. She was raised in Davis County, Iowa, receiving an eighth grade education and attending country schools in the county.

Cora was married to G. Everett Francis in December of 1903 in Stiles, Iowa. To this union were born five children. The family lived in Davis County, Iowa, until 1930 when they moved to California where Mr. Francis worked for Kirk Hill Rubber until retirement. They then retired to Florida until his death in 1955. Since then Cora had divided her time between her two daughters living in Iowa and California. She died Monday, November 7, 1977, at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove where she had lived for the past year.

Cora was always a very active member of the Christian Church in Iowa, California and Florida. She will be remembered by many for her singing. She sang much at church and for funerals. She was active in all phases of the church life. The church was her consuming interest. (Including the Women's Missionary Society, now known as C.S.F.)

She was a wife and mother. In addition to her church her other major interest with sewing of farious kinds including, quilting and braided rugs.

Remaining to remember her are two daughters, Velma Rogers, of Carlsbad, California, and Icle Townsent of Clarion, Iowa. There are also four grand and seven great-grandchildren.

She will be missed by family and friends.

Funeral services were held Thursday, November 10, 1977, at the Wagler Funeral Home, Bloomfield, Iowa, conducted by the Rev. Dwight Messenger. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery Bloomfield, Iowa.
