Cruikshank dies in tractor mishap
Harold Lee Cruikshank, 58, route 6, Bloomfield, was killed instantly at 11:05 a.m. Monday when a farm tractor he was operating overturned on him near his home four and one-half miles south of Bloomfield.
Cruikshank was mowing weeds along the road at the time.
Patrolman Richard Smith said Cruikshank apparently hit a sappling with his mower sickle bar, then backed up too far into a ditch.
Paul Stogdill, route 3, Bloomfield, found Cruikshank at 11:15 a.m.
Cruikshank was the son of Lowell and Mary Inskeep Cruikshank, born in Davis County on April 20, 1925.
He was a member of the Bloomfield Christian Church where he served as elder and deacon as well as on various committees. He was past-president and present board member of the Davis County Sheep Producers, a veteran of WWII and a member of American Legion Reed Whisler Post No. 78.
He was united in marriage to Hazel Hill on April 3, 1948 in Bloomfield.
Surviving are his wife; his mother, Mary Cruikshank; one daughter, Nancy Sprouse, Pulaski; one son, Lowell Dean Cruikshank, route 4, Bloomfield; and six grandchildren.
His father, Lowell Cruikshank, preceded him in death on Oct. 3, 1959.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Bloomfield Christian Church. The Rev. Don Slaughter will conduct the service.
Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery in Bloomfield with military rites.
A memorial has been established, to the Davis County Sheep Producers or the Bloomfield Christian Church.
Visitation is open at Priester's Funeral Chapel.
The casket will be taken to the church at 10 a.m. and closed at the beginning of the service.
