Sylvester Wilcoxen died at his home three miles northwest of Bloomfield Saturday, April 19th, 1913, and the funeral conducted at the Baptist Church in Bloomfield, Sunday April, 20th , at 3 o’clock p.m., by Rev. J.B. Yount. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery. He was born in Boone County, Mo and was 74 years, 10 months and 15 days old at the time of his death. He came to Davis County with his parents at the age of four. They settled on a farm near Mark where he grew to manhood. He married February 22, 1857, to Clarinda J. Jackson. Twelve children were born to this union, three dying in infancy, one son at the age of 33. Eight children with the wife survive, James F. of Salem, Oregon, Mrs. Margeret Williams of Moberly, Mo., Mrs. Mary Meyers of Bloomfield, Mrs. Emma Harris of Ottumwa, Wm., of Floris, Marion of Des Moines, Joshua of Foster, Caleb of Madrid, and an adopted son, Samuel. All were present at the funeral except the son in Oregon. The deceased was a great reader and student of the Bible and was able to quote numerous passages. He found greatest comfort and strength while reading the Psalms. He was a faithful church worker and will be missed by his home church.
