Ella Battin was born in Davis County Sept 6, 1874, died in Bloomfield, Oct., 7, 1893, aged 19 years, 1 month and 1 day. From birth Ella had been in delicate health and became an easy victim of that dread disease, consumption, which terminated her life. A peculiarly and feature of her last sickness was the giving way in health of her mother, who with a mother’s love and devotion had been caring for her. The mother had been in the spirit land just six days when the daughter died. Her father had died when she was but two years.
In January, 1886, when special religious services were conducted by Rev D C Smith, Ella professed conversion and united with the M E Church, remaining a consistent member of same to the day of her death. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, the day following her decease, at 1:30 o’clock at the home of her brother, A H Battin, the sole survivor of the family.
The pastor Rev W F Mair, officiated. Six young women of the Missionary Daughters, an organization of which the departed had been a faithful member, were pall bearers. The remains rest in the IOOF Cemetery.
