Ivory Rhodes

Ottumwa tri-weekly courier, November 07, 1912 Ivory Rhodes was born near Big Mount, Iowa in the year of 1846 and died November 2, 1912 at the age of 66 years. She moved with her parents to Jefferson county when two years old and lived there until May of the present year, since which time she has been making her home with her son Lewis B.
Thomas In Davis county near Mt. Gilead church. She was united in marriage to Martin L. Thomas and to this union was born two children, Lewis B. and John E.
Thomas. Lewis B. now lives in Davis county and John E. in Jefferson county.
Mrs. Rhodes was a woman of sterling qualities, always dis playing a spirit of philanthropy and was beloved by her friends and neighbors to whose needs she was always ready to administer charitable deeds and words of comfort. Although she had not united with any church society, she was a strong believer in the principles of Christianity which was exemplified in her life. A couple of months prior to her death she made a public confession of Christianity and was baptized in the Christian faith. She suffered through her protracted illness with that true spirit of resignation which only characterizes the true and genuine Christian. The first part of the funeral services were conducted at the home of her son where she died and from which place the remains were followed by a mourning procession to the cemetery at the Baptist church about three miles northeast of Eldon, being In Wapello county near the neighborhood of her late home at which place an impressive service was held and the funeral preached by a Baptist minister.
